This is great info, and I want to expand on this in a future article about yin/yang duality, etc. The only thing i'm confused about is how downward/inward growth is associated with yang and upward/outward growth is associated with yin. When you think of Brahma/growth/creation/evolution, this is yang/lingham/etc. and Shiva/decay/devolution/involution is associated with yin/yoni/etc. Thanks!

First I'll say that my familiarity with Brahma and Shiva is just the most basic understanding. But I would think about it as expansion/contraction. Yin is expansive, and to an extreme that would become decay/decomposition like you said. Evaporation would also be yin. Water is activated by the Yang sun to expand, move up & outward, lose its form (decomposing in a way) and become something lighter (vapor/gas). Even though something might be growing, if the movement is downward (like a carrot or root veggie) it's typically more Yang energetically. But everything has both elements. Nothing is purely yin or purely yang.

The decay and evaporation being expansive makes sense. I did think that roots growing downward is just outward expansion but must be a strong force than the lighter leaves and flowers. Also, the yin Moon pulls the sap upwards. Thanks!

Great job explaining this! Yin and Yang is all around us. When my son eats candy (yin) he gets really hyper (yang). 😆
